Today Im thinking spring.
No, scratch that Im BEGGING on my hands and knees for spring to get here! Even if Mother Natures not on board, Im shaking up my own version of spring today with this Blood Orange Paloma.
It was 9 degrees today. NINE WHOLE DEGREES. Thats cold enough to make your eyelids freeze together and your fingers feel like theyre going to fall off. Everything here in the Annapolis area is frozen solid and covered in a few inches of snow. Even the rivers are a sheet of ice!
Theres more snow in our forecast for tomorrow (another 10 possibly). Im so done with winter and feel like spring is impossibly far away.
I know the weather will eventually break and the warm air will return, but Im getting impatient. Very impatient! Im craving daffodils, green grass and my flip-flops. Not only am I done with winter, but my goodness I am d-o-n-e with snow boots too!
Today Im ignoring the weather and having my own little sip of spring. This Blood Orange Paloma is not only delicious, its bright and cheerful too- just like the first flowers of spring! If youve never had a Paloma before, then youre in for a treat. Some even say that the Paloma, not the margarita, is the most beloved drink of Mexico.
Traditionally, a Paloma is made with tequila, fresh grapefruit juice, and grapefruit soda. Ive switched things up a bit and swapped in blood oranges for the grapefruit (I even found blood orange sparkling soda). Its refreshing, packed with delicious citrus flavor, and has a nice little kick of tequila- perfect for your pseudo-springtime sippin!
I bet if Mother Nature had one or two of these Blood Orange Palomas shed melt the snow and turn up the temperature dial. For now though, well just have to keep muddling through winter, with a drink in hand of course, cheers!
